3 Tips to Beat Your Website Launch List Overwhelm

Filed under:

Mar 27, 2024

Remember that website you swore would be done by, like, yesterday? Did you also convince yourself you could launch it in the time it takes to microwave a burrito? Because, same.

Listen, it’s ok if you fell victim to that classic “launch my website in a (probably) completely unrealistic period of time and then my life will be perfect” delusion. In fact, let’s raise a glass to our ambitious former selves for forgetting we’re only human and need things like breaks, snacks, and decent sleep quality for our brains to function properly.

But hey, maybe you’re some kind of website-launching superhero who actually remembers to eat and breathe fresh air. If that’s you, kudos! (seriously, please teach me your ways?)

Anyway, wherever you’re at on the website launch struggle bus, I’ve got your back. Today, I’m sharing my top 3 tips for when you’re feeling overwhelmed by your launch to-do list.

Tip 01 — Pick a task that matches your energy level

Channelling your inner sloth today? I’m right there with you. Staring at a seemingly never-ending to-do list when you’re tired and struggling to focus is a sure-fire way of ending up stuck in analysis paralysis land (where we both know nothing gets done and then you just feel guilty after).

Instead, today I challenge you to pick the one task (only one!) that excites you most, or is most aligned with where your energy is at right now. Maybe it’s picking out killer stock photos that don’t look like they belong in a boardroom presentation. Or maybe it’s proofreading a single page of your website for typos and clarity. Just focus on whatever feels easiest (read: realistically achievable) right now.

While it might feel like you’re being too easy on yourself, sometimes that’s exactly what you need to build momentum and make the other tasks more manageable.

Bonus Tip: I like to assign “energy levels” to my tasks. Green tasks are easy website wins, orange ones take a little more prep, and the red tasks are best left for high-energy days when you can give them your full attention.

Tip 02 — Stop tweaking the little stuff

If you’re anything like me, you have a hard time knowing when things are ‘good enough’. We perfectionists can get stuck tinkering with the small things until the cows come home (or, you know, launch day arrives). Here’s the secret weapon: the “8 is great” mantra. Chances are, your 8/10 is most people’s “wow, that’s amazing!”

And yes, that includes that logo you’ve been tweaking for the past hour 👀 I know, I know — it’s fun. But your website visitors don’t care whether you found the perfect shade of green.

Let it go, launch it, and trust that your ideal clients will find you anyway. Plus, you can always fine-tune later once your site is already out there dazzling potential clients.

Tip 03 — Zoom out to readjust your focus

Take a step back and remember the big picture. Why are you doing this? What could your newly up-levelled website do for you? More aligned clients that *get* you? More time for guilt-free Netflix binges? More money in the bank to book that spontaneous city break? More freedom to work when you want, where you want, with a margarita in hand (I won’t judge).

Whatever your ‘why’, focus on that and let it be the driving force behind getting your new site up and running. Your website can’t work its magic for you if it’s sat in draft format!

And lastly…

If you’re looking to set yourself up for a successful site launch but your website builder just isn’t cutting it, visit the Wild Kind shop to check out our DIY-friendly, code-free Showit website templates — so you can finally cross “launch website” off your to-do list (like, for real this time).

Behind the brand

Hi, I’m Rachel—
designer, strategist, Showit expert, and corporate dropout.

Wild Kind was born from my need to save myself from the burnout cycle of 9-5 life, but what started as an escape route has grown into something so much more.

Don’t get me wrong, getting to wake up whenever I want and not ask anyone’s permission to take a mental health day is great, but I didn’t realize how much I’d love helping other entrepreneurs launch that thing they’ve been dreaming about for years.

Six years and hundreds of websites later, these templates exist for the convention-questioners, the freedom-seekers, and anyone who’s ever sat under fluorescent lights thinking “there has to be more than this”.

Because we’ve all spent enough time trying to fit ourselves into boxes that were never designed for us in the first place.
